THE FUNDS OF ARCHITECTURE

The Archives and Library were born together at the end of 50s, when the faculty of Engineer leaves the faculty of Architecture, the historic headquarters of the Application School for Engineers , that is the Valentino Castle. A large part of collections, moved to the new complex of corso Duca degli Abruzzi, remains at the Valentino Castle , assigned to cares by Roberto Gabetti. This is a small fund of Architecture, first core of the one that will become by a few years first the Library of the faculty of Architecture and later the Central Library of Architecture at the Politecnico. It includes, besides books and magazines, other documents gifted by architect Dezzutti. For ten years approx., the Director's efforts were addressed to increment book collections, and mainly periodical magazines. He is supported in this work by Carlo Mollino. The 70s mark the increment of the section of archives of the Library.. On August 1973, when Carlo Mollino died, documents of his professional bureau, including also the ones of his father, Eugenio Mollino, are deposited at the Library.
The fund includes heterogeneous materials: books, photographs, mail, drawings and other design documents, manuscripts to be published. The books, listed and marked with the writ Mollino Archive, are integrated into the Library. Their final classification and the classification of most important sections can be made only during the exhibition on Carlo Mollino's work dated 1989, within a research convention with the Province of Turin.
In addition to the Mollino fund, some year later is added a fund gifted by Bertone office, that, among other matters, includes the structural designs of several important Turinese buildings. In 1995 the professional archive by Domenico Morelli was purchased by gift, in 1987 the archive by Franco Berlanda, whereas the Gino Salvestrini archive is about to be purchased. All these three free-lancers, architects the first two, engineer the third, are active mainly in Turin.
