Call for Expression of Interest

Who we are

Politecnico di Torino is a major technical University located in Torino, North-West Italy, close to the Alps. Torino is a large city (900. 000 dwellers) and an important business and cultural center. Politecnico di Torino is one of the most prestigious Italian Universities, and it ranks 33rd in the area of Engineering according to the last QS World University Rankings.

The Dipartimento di Scienze Matematiche (DISMA) at Politecnico di Torino has been awarded the title of Dipartimento di eccellenza 2018-2022 from the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR), and it has received a large grant to pursue a scientific project, as illustrated here.

What we expect from applicants

Applicants should have strong expertise in a branch of discrete mathematics (as for instance graph theory, combinatorics, algorithms, discrete probability) and genuine scientific interest in one of the four main themes of the Progetto di eccellenza. They need to be mature and independent researchers with demonstrated track records of publications in primary academic journals, experience in teaching both at the undergraduate and graduate level. Interdisciplinarity and the potential to attract competitive funding will be highly valued as well as some experience in supervising PhD students and Post-Docs.

Applicants should express their interest by sending an email to hiring.disma@polito.it including:

  • a letter in which they motivate their interest in one of the themes of the project:
  • a curriculum vitae;
  • a list of publications.
Please name these three files respectively: motivation-surname, cv-surname, publications-surname. The subject of the email should be Associate-surname.

This call is only a preliminary stage aimed to collect expressions of interest, and it is not a formal application for positions. On the basis of the collected EoIs, the Department will decide whether or not to open a position in a specific sub-discipline. Academic positions in Italy can only be awarded through a public competition or direct appointment. The DISMA will contact the selected applicants to inform them about the opening of the formal positions and the required documentation.
