Two scholarships on the Excellence Project themes

The Excellence Project and Politecnico di Torino support two PhD positions that are aimed at attracting exceptionally talented and motivated students who will conduct research on the themes of the Department of Excellence’s scientific project:

  • T1. Resilient control for network systems;
  • T2. Nested mathematical models in biomedicine;
  • T3. Numerical methods for models with high geometric complexity;
  • T4. Approximation and statistical inference in random reaction (and interaction) networks.
Besides the standard PhD stipend (about 1.400 euro per month) and travel funds, the selected students may receive the following additional benefits:
  • Up to 4000 euro annually for lodging contribution for foreign students;
  • Up to 2000 euro annually as additional travel grant;
  • A laptop;
The possibility of having an additional year supported by a special fellowship.

One scholarship on Artificial Intelligence and Simulation

SmartData@PoliTO, the Excellence Project and Politecnico di Torino support a PhD position in Artificial Intelligence and Simulation for tackling complexity in engineering applications: deriving data-driven models and reduced models for fast evaluation.

The selected candidate will contribute to the understanding of the role of Deep Learning in several engineering fields, where simulations, complex models and multi-scale phenomena play a fundamental role. The main field of research will be Geophysics, with particular attention to fractured porous media and their hydro-mechanical properties.

Besides the standard PhD stipend (about 1.400 euro per month) and travel funds, the selected student may receive up to 2000 euro annually as additional travel grant.

One scholarship on Learning and Optimization in Networks

Machine Learning Reply and the Excellence Project support a PhD position in Learning and Optimization in Large-Scale Networks.

The research project focuses on the development of supervised and unsupervised machine learning methods for anomaly detection in multi-agent systems, of generative models for synthetic data generation from known but hardly modellable probability distributions, and of distributed optimisation algorithms for the estimation of model parameters.

Besides the standard PhD stipend (about 1.400 euro per month) and travel funds, the selected student may receive up to 2000 euro annually as additional travel grant.
