A TORINO E ALTROVE. DIBATTITI INTERDISCIPLINARI SULLE CITTA’ CHE CAMBIANO
I processi storici degli ultimi decenni hanno riportato le città al centro della scena: se nel 1900 solo il 9% della popolazione del pianeta viveva in città, lo fa invece oggi più della metà. Cosa significa però vivere in città? Quali sono stati i cambiamenti che le città hanno subito in tutto il mondo? Quali sono le nuove forme di disuguaglianza e marginalità che rendono spesso le città l’espressione per eccellenza delle asimmetrie di potere e ricchezza?
Su questi interrogativi si confronteranno per tre giorni studiose e studiosi di discipline diverse provenienti da tutto il mondo, nel tentativo di elaborare nuove prospettive che ci aiutino a cogliere la complessità del mutamento urbano, a Torino e non solo.

TURIN AND ELSEWHERE. CROSS-DISCIPLINARY DEBATES ON URBAN TRANSFORMATIONS AND DYNAMICS
Historical processes taking place in the last decades have put the city back at the centre of the stage. If only the 9% of the population used to live in urban settings at the beginning of the Twentieth Century,, today the percentage has grown to include more than half of the world population. What does living in the city imply? Which are the convergent and divergent processes affecting the cities at the global level? What are the forms of inequality and marginalization that make the city the expression par excellence of asymmetries of power and wealth?
International scholars from different disciplines will discuss these issues during a three-days Workshop, in the attempt to develop new perspectives that will enable us to grasp the complexity of urban change, in Turin as elsewhere.
