Luciano Rolando received a MSc cum-laude in Automotive Engineer from Politecnico di Torino in 2008 and then received a PhD in Energetics from the same University in 2012, defending a thesis on energy management systems for hybrid propulsion systems.
In 2010 during his PhD he spent a full semester at the Center for Automotive Research of the Ohio State University as a visiting scholar.
In 2011 he was the recipient of the Honda Initiation Grant Europe for the Cayman Project, which was awarded as the best powertrain research project from a European University for 2011. From January 2012 to May 2013 he was involved in the AMPERE project, funded by Piedmont Regional Governement and lead by Pininfarina, aiming to develop a modular hybrid electric propulsion system suitable for urban buses fleets.
From February 2014 Rolando’s activities mainly focused on the development of innovative traction systems for high performance vehicles in the framework of a research project in collaboration with Ferrari Spa. In particular, the research deals with definition of technical solutions for high specific power SI engines and with the minimization of the vehicle fuel consumption through the design of a suitable hybrid powertrain.
In November 2017 L. Rolando was enrolled as Assistant Professor by Politecnico di Torino through a scholarship founded by Ferrari Spa, and since December 2018 he has been the recipient of a tenure track position at the same University.
