2014 ERASMUS INTENSIVE PROGRAMME "CITYGREENING"

How Town Planning Can Integrate Urban Agriculture in City Regeneration

General information

Erasmus IP-Citygreening project represents an opportunity for Universities involved to reach a qualified public at international level, giving a chance to share and exchange experiences and best practices for a sustainable innovation of contemporary cities.

Each partner University selects 6 students that will take part to the project workshop, guided by 1-2 professors from each university.

Students are committed to work out a project proposal over a chosen field of study, an sort of agricultural park located in the Southern periphery of Turin, near Moncalieri and La Loggia. The project will be presented in a final conference open to the city.

The issues that will be discussed during the workshop are common to many European main cities, where several components of the city fabric, currently settled between the historical core and the developments occurred after the 1960s, are today residual areas affected by abandonment and decay, and ask for a rehabilitation process. The answer of Urban Planning to this need of rehabilitation requires new methods and tools overcoming the traditional planning approach.

IP-Citygreening looks forward to this need through a design experience directly involving a community of around 100 people among teachers, students and external experts representing the local partners.

Student groups are formed since the beginning of the IP, taking care for the maximisation of cultural exchange between different nationalities, cultures and study background.

The groups will be composed by 6 students. A tutor will be assigned to each group, to support the discussions, the work process and the final presentation. In order to sharpen the focus, to stimulate project ideas and work, and provide students with further directions for teamwork, the first week of IP will end with a mid-term presentation of team works.

The workshop will end with the presentation of the final project outcomes to the teachers and the local stakeholders involved.
