RES2020: Monitoring and Evaluation of the RES directives implementation in EU27 and policy recommendations for 2020
(
from 2007 to 2009)

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

The RES2020 project aimed at supporting the policy debate on renewable energy strategies in the EU until 2020.
RES2020 aimed at:

 •
Analysing the Y2005 situation in the RES implementation; ;

 •
Defining future options for policies and measures;

 •
Calculating concrete targets for the RES contribution that can be achieved by the implementation of these options;

 • Examining the implications of the achievement of these targets to the European Economy.

Future options for policies and measures have been studied with the use of the TIMES energy systems analysis model, in order to analyze the quantitative effects on the RES development. TIMES offers the possibility of developing an aggregate parameter in order to quantify the impact of a wide range of support schemes. The results have been combined to provide recommendations of optimal mix scenarios for policy measures, in order to ensure the achievement of the targets.

LAME ACTIVITIES

The Leader Team was CRES (Greece);
LAME research group worked mainly in WP3.

Starting from the reference energy systems described within the NEEDS project, WP3 in RES2020 was aimed, among other tasks, at the analysis and inclusion in the model of grid issues in order to take into account for the distributed generation. In this framework the LAME group proposed (and realized) the construction of a common RES-ELC (for the electricity sector) an led the task it was responsible for. This RES-ELC scheme have been adopted in the next TIMES models for Europe (REALISEGRID, REACCESS) funded by EC.
