Celco YACHT
Sviluppo di un sistema a celle a combustibile per l’alimentazione degli ausiliari di bordo e la propulsione di una imbarcazione da diporto.
The project had two main tasks:
Task one:
the study, the realisation and the validation of a tool to test an
Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) with a rated power of 15 kW based on a
fuel cell system for the installation on a yacht. The target was
achieved by primarily developing a catalyst and a reforming reactor
suitable for the use with gasoline (<50ppm sulphur content); then a
catalyst and a reforming reactor was developed to smoothly operate
with common naval fuel for use in diesel engines in a durable way.
Task two:
a feasibility study of the fuel cell system for the supply of a
power rates comprised in the range 600-1000 kW and dedicated to the
propulsion of yachts in the class up to 18m. The system comprised
the production of hydrogen onboard by means of a reforming process
(with steam or autothermal) starting form a naval fuel for diesel
engines which can be commonly found in harbours. The target of the
project was to acquire know-how: the project, in fact, forced to
study the entire system, from the storage of the fuel to the final
electrical demand.
