Energy Demands and Services Demands
The model takes into account primary and
secondary energy demands related to end-use technologies. Primary
energy can be available for consumption by means of import or local
mining and it can be transformed into secondary energy (electricity
and heat) through process and conversion technologies or directly
consumed by end use technologies. Secondary energy, in turn, can
either be consumed by end use processes or exported. Particular
attention has been paid to the energy infrastructures (i.e. power
lines, oil and gas pipelines, etc.).
Services demands – which are exogenous variables of the model – are
represented by services requirements such as mobility (of passengers
and goods), space heating and cooling for the environmental comfort,
use of electrical appliances, etc. The drivers for the temporal
evolution (over the considered time horizon) of these exogenous
variables are macro-economic variables: population, income,
investments, availability of resources, etc.
The model allows to aggregate services and energy demands into the
main macro-sectors (industry, transportation, non-energy use,
residential, commerce and services) usually considered in the
economic studies, in order to facilitate the analysis of the
results.
