Micro CHP
Design of a micro-CHP unit based on fuel cells
year: 2003/2004 (duration 48 months)
funding: Regione Piemonte
partners: Temporary Association for the purpose of the project
(leading partner: Environment Park)
scientific responsible: Politecnico di Torino
The project had the purpose of designing a
CHP (Combined Heat and Power) unit based on the combination of a
natural gas steam reformer and a stack of PEM fuel cells. The
objective was to test the potential of these systems for
multi-family domestic use and for small consumers in the tertiary
sector (hotels, restaurants, offices..).
The CHP unit had a rated electrical peak power of 4 kW and a
modulation from 1-4; it was also possible to modulate its thermal
operation in the range 4-24 kW.
