The Second  International Workshop on Quantum Well Infrared Photodetectors  (QWIP2002)  will  be held in  Torino (Italy)  from October 13 to 17, 2002. This meeting  follows  the QWIP 2000 Workshop held in Dana Point (California)  from 27 to 29 July 2000.

The development of the Quantum Well Infrared Photodetector (QWIP) technology over the last two decades has led to the realization of large-format, long-wavelength infrared Thermal Imaging Systems, now commercially available through several manufacturers. The QWIP2002 Workshop aims to bring  together scientists, engineers, industrial collaborators, students and users to discuss recent advances in this field. The conference will provide an international forum for attendees to present and discuss new progress in device physics, material growth  and processing issues, focal plane array development and characterization, as well as commercialization and applications of the QWIP technology. The conference will also explore the benefits as well as drawbacks of this technology, and find its role in the competitive market of thermal imaging technology. The program  will include invited talks, oral presentations  panel discussion, as well as several opportunities for informal interactions among workshop participants.

Main topics will be:

Novel Devices Concepts
Multi-Color QWIPs
Wavelength Tunable QWIPs
Advanced Light Coupling Systems
QWIP Applications
Alternative Material Systems
Commercialization
QWIPs and Beyond (Q-dots, Carbon Nanotubes, etc)
Superlattice Detectors
Avalanche Photodiodes
Far IR Devices
