  Felice Garelli

Felice Garelli   was born in Fossano (Turin) in 1869. Garelli moved to Turin where he attended classes of Industrial Chemistry at the Royal Italian Industrial Museum.

After a short term at different industries, Garelli enlisted at the University of Bologna, where he graduated under the guide by Giacomo Ciamician, a famous teacher of whom he became an assistant.

Garelli taught General Chemistry in Ferrara. From 1903 to 1911 the professor taught Technological Chemistry at the Regio Politecnico di Napoli. In 1911 Garelli was called to the Politecnico di Torino to teach Technological Chemistry. From 1925 to 1929 Garelli was the rector of the Politecnico. Full of patriotic spirit, Garelli adhered to the Nationalism and later to the Fascism. He was one of the first Fascist university professors.

During the first world war Garelli devoted to chemical researches for the war industry: chemical aggressives, explosives and poisonous gases.

The Politecnico di Torino owes to Garelli the first institution of the degree in Industrial Chemmistry and the refreshing course of studies in Chemical Engineer. Garelli died on 21st March 1936 due to a violent attack of angina pectoris.
