  Giorgio Dardanelli

was born in Mondovì (Cuneo) on 7th March 1909. Dardanelli graduated in Civil Engineering in 1930, at the Politecnico di Torino. Student of Gustavo Colonnetti and a very brilliant student, he was called by the same Colonnetti as an assistant to the chair of Science of Constructions, an office he kept up to 1953.

Designer and consultant engineer of great implementations in the field of Civil Engineering in Italy and abroad, Dardanelli achieved in 1949 the qualitification to university teaching in Technology of Materials and Techniques of Constructions. From 1949 to 1957 he was an annually appointed professor in Construction of Bridges at the faculty of Engineering and from 1956 to 1969 he taught Theoretic Mechanics and Graphic Statics at the faculty of Architecture.

Entered in 1951 in Fiat - Division of Constructions and Plants - Dardanelli remained there up to 1974, co-operating as a consultant of Fiat Engineering.

In this period Dardanelli looked after designs and implementations in Italy and abroad, such as industrial factories, thermoelectric stations, hydric works, road communications and implementations in the field of road implementations.

The extraordinary contribution made by Dardanelli to the design and implementation of the Great Saint Bernard Tunneling is to be mentioned as well; studies for tunneling Ciriegia and the consultancy to the design to the first underground line of Turin, are to be mentioned as well.

Within Fiat Group, Dardanelli had several offices at Impresit, Sitrasb, Moviter, the motorway Turin-Savona, the Park, the Sitralp. He was author of several publications earlier in the field of sciences and techniques, then in the field of road and underground communications, yards and industrial settlements. The Board of Engineers of Turin, office in which he distinguished among others for a wise man.

Dardanelli was president of ediating work, he had to win and compose a soft term of contrasts within the Council. He died in Turin on 1st January 1978.
