Federico Filippi
was born in Vercelli on 23rd September 1931, Filippi graduated at the Politecnico di Torino in Industrial Mechanical Engineering (1953) and Aeronautic Engineering (1955).
Then the engineer spent a period of studies at Princeton in the United States of America, namely at the James Forrestal Research Center, where he made researches on the continual combustion in the aeronautic field.
In 1961 Filippi became a temporary lecturer of Engines for Aircrafts at the Politecnico di Torino.
From 1965 to 1968 the professor was director of the Imma (Institute of Machines and Engines for Aircrafts).
In November of 1981 Filippi decided to leave the university and research worlds to enter the industry; he had worked at the Microtecnica as a deputy technical manager for two years, then in 1983 he entered Iveco (Industrial vehicle corporation) as a technical manager, responsible of the design area and member of the board of directors. At Iveco he remained up to 1991.
In next year Filippi was appointed as general manager of Ertico (European Road Transport Telematics Implementation Co-ordination Organisation), a body working for rationalising the road transport at a European level.
Filippi was a member of the Academy of Sciences of Turin since 1970. In the same year he started working for the magazine "Ata" (Technical Association of the Car) first as a director and then as a deputy president.
In the 4-year term 1976-1980 he made an activity of research for Cnr, in the National Committee for Sciences of Engineering and Architecture.
In addition, Filippi was also a deputy delegate of Fisita (International Federation of Societies for Engineers of Car Technologies) from the end of 70s to the beginning of 90s.
He died on 19th August 1995 for an accident.
