Federico Sacco
was born in Fossano (Cuneo) on 5th February 1864.
Sacco was a member in the Academy of Sciences of Turin since 1827.
Author of several monographs on the glaciers of the Bianco Mountain, Rosa Mountain, Cervino and Gran Paradiso Mountains, Sacco wrote some six hundred works of geomorphologic and stratigraphic subjects with paleontologic remarks and studied the morenic amphitheatres of Ivrea, Rivoli and the Maggiore Lake.
He was director of the Institute of Geology at the Politecnico di Torino and President of the Italian Geologic Committee. He died on 2nd October 1948 and the Bullettin of the Italian Glaciologic Committee remembers him this way: "No other people as Sacchi did made so much plenty of work in glaciology and much with his passion: the great work of the big Master transpires the charme exerted on him by great natural shows".
