Ascanio Sobrero
  was born in Casale Monferrato (Alexandria) on 12th October 1812.
Sobrero graduated in Medicine at the University of Turin, where in 1845 he became teacher of Chemistry.
Since 1859 he taught Chemistry at the Application School for Engineers. His most important discovery that included him in the range of most famous chemists all over the world, was the discovery of the nitroglycerin (1847) and nitromennite.
