  Severino Grattoni

hydraulic and civil architect, was born in San Gaudenzio on 7th December 1815 and died in Turin on 1st April 1876.
Among his works we remember the following ones: Strada ferrata da Torino a Genova (Railway from Turin to Genoa), Piani inclinati dell'Appennino (Tilted planes in the Appenine), Progetto delle macchine fisse idrauliche destinate ad utilizzare le acque della Scrivia, qual forza motrice dei convogli (Project for fixed hydraulic machines aimed at using Scrivia river waters, as a motive power of trains).

In 1852 within the enlargement plan of Porta Nuova, Grattoni designed a series of civil living buildings. In addition, in Turin Grattoni looked after restoring two buildings, a silk factory and an ancient powder-magazine in Borgo Dora.
