Welcome to DRSL group, a dynamic and innovative team dedicated to advancing the frontiers of knowledge in resilience and structural health monitoring (SHM) within the field of civil engineering. Our group comprises a diverse and talented collective of researchers, engineers, and experts, each contributing their unique skills and passion to drive impactful research and development.


At DRSL, our mission is to spearhead groundbreaking research in resilience and SHM technologies, addressing the complex challenges faced by civil engineering structures. We are committed to pushing the boundaries of knowledge, fostering innovation, and contributing to the development of resilient, sustainable, and intelligent infrastructure.


Our multidisciplinary team brings together experts from various domains, including structural engineering, materials science, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and more. This diverse skill set allows us to approach research problems from different perspectives, fostering a rich and collaborative environment that fuels creativity and excellence.

Group Leader

Gian Paolo Cimellaro

Full Professor

He has been Visiting Professor at the University of California, Berkeley (2014-2016). He obtained his M.S. (2005) and Ph.D. (2008) from the University at Buffalo (SUNY) in USA. Graduated cum laude in Civil Engineering, University of Rome La Sapienza, 2001. He is the Chair of the SHMII Committee on Resilient Structures and Infrastructure (CORSI) of the International Society for structural Health Monitoring of Intelligent Infrastructures. He is also SHMII Council member of the Governing body of the International Society for structural Health Monitoring of Intelligent Infrastructures and General Secretary of ASSISI, Anti-Seismic Systems International Society.

Alessandro Cardoni

Assistant Professor

Alessandro Cardoni is an Assistant Professor at Politecnico, specializing in Community Resilience and Seismic Performance of Physical Infrastructures. He holds a bachelor's, master's, and Ph.D. from Politecnico and has been a visiting scholar at UCLA.

Amir Reza Elahi

PhD Candidate 

His study focus on improving community resilience through innovative structural health monitoring and computer vision. He obtained his master's degree from Politecnico and his bachelor's degree from the University of Kerman

Andrea Calidori

PhD Candidate

Andrea Calidori completed his bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Bologna. He is currently conducting research on dynamic identification of systems using drones as part of his Ph.D. studies

Alessandro Feraudi

PhD Candidate

Alessandro Feraudi completed his master's degree at Politecnico di Torino, focusing on structural engineering. His research primarily involves scrutinizing the dynamics of complex structures during seismic events, with the aim of enhancing their resilience and safety protocols.

PhD Candidate

Adel Bali obtained his master's degree from the Politecnic University of Algeria. His research work concentrates on reducing the downtime of buildings damaged by earthquakes, aiming to enhance post-earthquake recovery and resilience.

Our research primarily focuses on mitigating the damaging effects of natural and man-made hazards on our infrastructure by developing resilient systems incorporating novel response mechanisms and advanced materials.
