Atka was created during 2015/2016 academic year, gaining significantly better results than the previous project as consequence of the acquired experience. For that year, the goal was to compete in the 1001 Vela Cup and rank higher among other participants. In several months of work, priority was given to the manufacturing process and, experimenting a combination of different materials, a lighter, more resistant and esthetically improved hull was obtained. The sandwich was composed by layers of balsa core, glass and basalt fibers while the internal structure and the deck were made of okumè plywood. Improvements applied in the method made Atka a high performing skiff for medium-low winds and laminar motion. In the construction year, we obtained satisfying results reaching 4 th place in the regata and 2 nd place in “Paolo Padova” Trophy. In 2018, we classified 2 nd among 13 racing boats in 1001 Vela Cup.
