Landscape Observatories, Centres, Institutes / Italian Landscape Observatories

In Italy, Landscape Observatories are planned under the Code of Cultural Heritage and Landscape (Legislative Decree n. 42/2004 - and subsequent modifications and integrations). This Law was last amended by the Legislative Decree No. 63 of March 26, 2008, which introduced a new definition of landscape in lines with the principles of the European Landscape Convention.

Art. 133 - Co-operation Between Public Administrations for the protection and enhancement of the landscape.

(1) The Ministry and the Regions shall define the policies for the protection and enhancement of the landscape, also taking into account studies, analyses and proposals made by the National Observatory for Landscape Quality, estamblished by ministerial decree, as well as those made by Observatories estamblished in each Region for the same purpose.

Landscape Observatories have different spatial scale of interest: national, regional or local.
