Costanza Gamberini holds a M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Trento and a B.Sc. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Ferrara, where she specialized in hydraulic protection and river engineering. While working on her M.Sc. thesis project, she spent four months in Geneva (CH) at the Institute for Environmental Science (ISE) under the supervision of Prof. Walter Bertoldi (University of Trento) and Dr. Virginia Ruiz-Villanueva (ETH Zurich). Her thesis “Observation and modelling of large wood dynamics in braided rivers” was focused on the combination of different approaches to study wood transport processes in multichannel rivers: remote sensing, numerical and physical modelling.
After her graduation in March 2018, she obtained the licence to practice as Civil and Environmental Engineer and she worked for 3 months as Engineering Technician Assissant at the Consorzio di Bonifica in Piacenza. There she mainly conducted field work, making topographic measurements on steep mountain rivers and designing river engineering works.
Currently she is a Research Fellow in Dr. Ing. Alessandro Casasso Geothermal Group inside The Groundwater Research Group lead by Prof. Rajandrea Sethi. At the moment her research activity is divided between two different projects:
- Assessing the environmental impacts of Domestic Hot Water (DHW) plants with a focus on GHG emissions. In particular evaluating the economic feasibility and the environmental convenience of replacing standard DHW dedicated gas boiler with air-source heat pumps (HP).
- Piter Alpimed INNOV, a project developed inside the ALCOTRA programme – which is one of the European cross-border cooperation programmes – that covers the alpine territory between France and Italy. The project is divided into two WPs:
- Laboratory for the optimization of water use in agriculture for irrigation.
- Laboratory for the optimization of water and energy use in ski resorts for artificial snowmaking.
In her free time Costanza likes reading, visiting art galleries and monuments, travelling, and practicing group sports.
