Tiziana Tosco is Associate Professor in the Department of Environment, Land and Infrastructure Engineering (DIATI), Politecnico di Torino . Her research activities mainly focus on groundwater remediation and contaminant transport in the subsoil. She is co-responsible of the Environmental Nanotechnology Laboratory in the Groundwater Engineering Group and is member of the Scientific Board of the inter-departmental laboratory FULL (Future Urban Legacy Laboratory).
Tiziana has been working on the development of nanoparticle-based in-situ remediation techniques for contaminated aquifers, including experiments, modelling and field applications, in the framework of several projects funded by the Italian Government and private companies, and of three projects funded by the E.U. (FP7 AQUAREHAB, FP7 NANOREM, H2020 REGROUND). Her most recent works deal with: the optimized application of nanomaterials for groundwater remediation and their up-scaling from the lab to the field; the development of a human health risk assessment approach for nanoparticle-contaminated sites; the quantification and mitigation of the environmental impacts of agrochemicals. In the framework of the last topic, she coordinates the NANOGRASS project focused on the development of “green” nano-formulations for pesticides. She also developed the freeware MNMs software for solute and particle transport in porous media (http://areeweb.polito.it/ricerca/groundwater/software/MNMs.php).
Tiziana is an Associate Professor at Politecnico di Torino, where she teaches the courses “Reclamation of Polluted Sites” (MS Environmental Engineering), “Particle transport in porous media: filtration and clogging” (PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering) and “Remediation techniques for contaminated sites” (Second Level Master in Engineering for drinking, civil and industrial uses of water). She is Lecturer in the course “Groundwater Engineering” (MS Environmental Engineering, prof. Rajandrea Sethi).
In her spare time, she loves gardening and baking desserts for her colleagues, who are very happy about it.
