Luca Serpella is a research fellow, and he got his master degree in Materials Engineering at Politecnico di Torino in December 2017.
He is working on a research project called NANOGRASS aimed to Develop a NANO-herbicide formulation that could minimize the impact of aGRochemicAls on Soil and Subsoil. He is using different materials in order to find out which carrier is better for the realization of such a system.
Luca carried out his Master thesis in Turin, at Politecnico, researching and developing an oral delivery system for a particular drug (piroxicam) using mesoporous silica, in cooperation with SMAC group (Supercritical fluids and MAterials Chemistry). He chose that particular drug due to its low solubility in water and organic solvents and the use of silica as a carrier improved the solubility of piroxicam. Moreover he used a new, green, rapid and inexpensive type of drug loading (compared to the traditional one) using supercritical carbon dioxide.
